John Galliano Spring 1998 black bias-cut dress, cut in a fluid, elongated silhouette with an effortlessly sensual draped construction. Crafted in luxurious matte black crepe, the dress features a softly draped cowl neckline, open back, asymmetric hemline and side slit. The defining detail is the pair of long, fluid fabric panels extending from the shoulder, which can be freely rearranged and draped toward the front or back, creating different silhouettes and styling possibilities.

The dress perfectly captures the sensual, body-conscious bias cutting and fluid draping characteristic of John Galliano’s late-1990s work. The fabric naturally follows the body while retaining a beautiful sense of movement, creating an elegant, elongated silhouette without feeling restrictive.

The asymmetric construction is particularly striking: the dress falls longer at the front and shorter at the back, while the overall length remains around the ankle. The understated matte black crepe gives the piece an unusually wearable quality, allowing the dramatic construction to remain the focus.

The shoulder panels can be styled in multiple ways — left to cascade down the back, brought forward over the shoulder, or arranged asymmetrically for a more sculptural effect.

Size: FR 40 / US 8
Measurements are recommended for the best fit:

Chest: 41–52 cm / 16.1–20.5”
Waist: 37–47 cm / 14.6–18.5”
Hips: 47–54 cm / 18.5–21.3”
Length, shoulder to longest point: 144 cm / 56.7”
Length, shoulder to shortest point: 132 cm / 52”

Due to the bias-cut construction and fluid draping, measurements are naturally variable depending on how the garment is positioned and worn.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition.

A particularly beautiful example of 1990s John Galliano, combining the designer’s signature bias-cut sensuality with fluid draping and an exceptionally sophisticated black palette. The reconfigurable shoulder panels give the dress an almost couture-like versatility, while the minimalist color and elongated silhouette make it remarkably easy to wear.

A rare and highly desirable piece from Galliano’s Spring 1998 period — an exceptional example of the designer’s distinctive late-1990s aesthetic.
