A striking Roberto Cavalli Fall/Winter 1999 ensemble in the designer’s signature sensual, nature-inspired language, featuring an extraordinary photographic iris print in deep violet, lavender, blue, olive and black.
The look consists of a bias-cut crepe chiffon blouse and matching satin skirt, both crafted from 100% silk. Together, they recreate the silhouette and visual language of the iris-print dresses from the same collection.
The blouse is particularly beautiful: its fluid, sheer silk chiffon is cut on the bias for a naturally body-skimming fit, with softly flared sleeves and a delicate ruffled trim framing the open keyhole neckline. The front is finished with a distinctive gold-tone cord fastening, adding one of Cavalli’s characteristic touches of sensual ornamentation.
The matching skirt is cut in luminous silk satin, with an elongated, fluid silhouette and an asymmetric hem that allows the dramatic iris motif to unfold across the body. A small gold-tone dangling charm at the waist adds a subtle finishing detail.
The print itself is spectacular — oversized, painterly iris blooms emerging from an atmospheric black and olive ground, with flashes of violet, lilac, icy blue and warm orange.
