Dior by John Galliano Spring 2000 Equestrian Print Silk Ensemble

A truly exceptional and highly collectible Christian Dior by John Galliano Spring/Summer 2000 Ready-to-Wear ensemble, featuring one of Galliano’s most recognizable equestrian-inspired silk prints of the era.

Presented during Galliano’s tenure at Dior, the Spring 2000 Ready-to-Wear collection was a particularly memorable moment in the designer’s early Dior years, mixing historical references with provocative, highly constructed silhouettes and the house’s signature glamour. Vogue describes the collection as moving through corsetry, historical influences, denim, leather and other exaggerated Galliano signatures. 

The jacket and skirt are from the same collection and both appeared on the runway, styled in separate looks, making this a particularly exciting opportunity to acquire two pieces from this iconic print together.

The print itself is spectacular: an intricate composition of golden chains, buckles, equestrian hardware, blue leather details and ornamental motifs against a cream silk ground. It has the unmistakable late-1990s/early-2000s Galliano sensibility and is highly sought after by collectors of the designer’s Dior period.

THE JACKET

A cropped, sharply constructed silk jacket with a beautifully fitted silhouette and elaborate printed detailing.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The jacket appears exceptionally well preserved, with no obvious flaws noted during inspection.

THE SKIRT

The matching asymmetrical silk skirt is an especially distinctive piece, cut on the bias to create a naturally fluid fit and slight stretch through the fabric.

The asymmetrical construction gives the skirt a beautifully deconstructed Galliano silhouette, while the long navy trim emphasizes the diagonal construction. It also features a front pocket, adding an unexpected utilitarian detail to the otherwise highly decorative piece.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. There are a few extremely small, approximately 1–2 mm marks/stains on the silk. They are very minor and not noticeable when the skirt is worn, but are disclosed for full transparency. Please refer to the photographs.

Given the age and rarity of the piece, these minor imperfections are consistent with a historic vintage garment and do not detract from its overall appearance.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

This is a particularly desirable example of John Galliano’s Dior-era work at the turn of the millennium. The Spring 2000 collection is an important part of Galliano’s Dior legacy, and the runway archive documents 55 looks from the collection. 

The period is also significant for Galliano’s use of exaggerated historical and equestrian references alongside highly modern, provocative styling. The collection has subsequently become an important reference point for collectors of early Galliano at Dior.
